The initiate spends years in the absence of sunlight, ingests magical fungi, gazes into a mirror, and, before observing the world around him with enhanced perception, takes a Masonic-fashioned oath by repeating after a man to swear, “To all this I most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear, with a firm and steadfast resolution to keep and perform my oath, without the least equivocation, mental reservation, or self-evasion whatever.”
